TYPES OF MS-DOS BASIC
MICROSOFT BASIC INTERPRETERS FOR MS-DOS
Microsoft bundled a free version of GW-BASIC™ with all versions of MS-DOS prior to MS-DOS 5.0 starting with MS-DOS 1.0 in 1983. The source code included in Bible Computer Games Book #3 is designed for Microsoft QBASIC™. QBASIC™ was bundled with MS-DOS 5.x, 6.x, Windows 95/98/ME, and Windows NT 3.x/4.x. MICROSOFT BASIC COMPILER FOR MS-DOS
The Microsoft QuickBASIC™ Compiler v4.5 was the last release of the QuickBASIC™ Compiler in 1988. QuickBASIC™ was published by Microsoft between 1985 and 1988. The Microsoft Basic Professional Development Systems (PDS)™ continued until version 7.1 which was released in October of 1991. Visual Basic 1.0 for DOS™ was released in 1991 to help developers transition to the new Microsoft Windows development environment.
